Applying for Canadian Citizenship with Criminal Record
Are you Permanent Resident in Canada and like to apply for Canadian citizenship but you have a criminal record on file? If you are convicted of a criminal offence then you are prohibited of applying for citizenship. If you have been convicted of what’s called an indictable offence, which is against the citizenship act, you cannot be eligible for citizenship. If you have been convicted of an indictable offence and served your sentence you still may eligible if 3 years have elapsed since the sentence has been completed. If you are in prison or still currently in parole serving probation then you are still not eligible to apply until you complete the entire sentence. This also applies to individuals that have summary convictions, so no matter what your offence whether it is minor or major you have to complete whatever that was imposed on you before you can apply for Canadian citizenship.
If you're under a removal order basically you are requested to leave Canada based on your criminal offence or any matter whether if it’s a criminal offence or any other immigration issues you then cannot submit a citizenship application. If you are being investigated or charged with or convicted of a crime against humanity are also ineligible to apply as they are severe offences.
