Have you submitted your immigration application and not sure when to ask for an update from an immigration officer? Consider these prior to contacting citizenship and immigration Canada:

• check the processing time for the application you have submitted, if it has surpassed the time frame then contact CIC, if you contact CIC prior to the processing time you can potentially irritate the immigration officer and they may simply delay your immigration for not following processing times
• Contact CIC if your immigration situation changes (new born child, getting divorced, change of address etc.)
• when submitting PR application, ensure you update the immigration officer every 6 months and add additional documents as necessary
