A Super Visa is essentially a Visitor’s Visa which is granted only to the parents and grandparents of Canadian citizens and permanent residents. The Super Visa can have a validity of up to 10 years. Application Tips for Super Visa

The Super Visa application is a great alternative for Canadian citizens and permanent residents of Canada who would like to reunite with their parents or grandparents for longer than six months in Canada. In the past, the only option was the parent-grandparent sponsorship; however, now individuals can choose to apply for the super visa. For the super visa application, it is very important to understand and recognize the requirements from the sponsor as well as from the applicant. Therefore, in this article, I will address some useful and beneficial application tips when applying for a Super Visa to Canada.

Eligibility Requirements for Super Visa

If you are a Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada, then you are on the right track to being eligible to apply for the Super Visa for your parent or grandparent. In addition, you must also meet the minimum low income cut off. It is important to note that the minimum necessary income is determined and based on your current family size and the amount of individuals you intend on sponsoring to Canada. The amount of individuals will be either one or two – i.e. your parent or grandparent and their spouse or common-law partner. Keep in mind, for this specific type of Immigration application, dependents are not allowed to apply. In other words, any dependent child of the parent or grandparent would not be eligible to apply and, thus, cannot be included in the application for Super Visa.

Applying for a Super Visa

Family Time is Precious

Your daughter just gave birth to your grandchild in Toronto. You check your email to see photos of your grandchild every day. However, seeing photos of your grandchild’s chubby face cannot satisfy your desire to see your grandchild in person. Most importantly, your daughter misses you and invites you to explore the beauty of Canada. You want to go to Canada and to help take care of your grandchild. If you are a grandparent or a parent of a Canadian citizen or a Canadian permanent resident, and you want to stay in Canada for more than six months without becoming a permanent resident of Canada, you will need to obtain a super visa. Throughout this article, we will introduce you the purpose of a super visa and how you can obtain one to spend quality time with your children and grandchildren in Canada.

What is a Super Visa

A super visa is a temporary, multi-entry permit that allows parents or grandparents of Canadian citizens or permanent residents to stay for up to two years in Canada. It is valid up to ten years. That being said, a super visa holder has the ability to leave and re-enter Canada for ten years.

A Solution to the Closing of the Parent and Grandparent Sponsorship Program (PGP)

Super Visa a Viable Solution for Parents and Grandparents

Sadly, the Parent and Grandparent Sponsorship Program (PGP) is currently closed for new applications. However, luckily for parents and grandparents of Canadian citizens and permanent residents of Canada, there is a solution to this slight problem. They can now apply for a Super Visa to be reunited with their families in Canada. The Super Visa still remains open, thankfully. There are several different requirements compared to the PGP. In this article, I will address what a Super Visa is and its benefits; compare the differences between the PGP and Super Visa; and the eligibility requirements for a Super Visa.

What is a Super Visa

The super visa allows parents and grandparents of Canadian citizens and permanent residents of Canada a multi-entry visa that provides multiple entries for a period of up to 10 years. This visa is extremely beneficial for family members who wish to stay with their family for more than just a couple of months or years. The main difference between a super visa and a visitor visa is that the Super Visa allows an individual to stay for up to two years on initial entry into Canada, while a 10-year multiple entry visa would only have a status period for each entry of six months only.

Super Visa for Parents and Grandparents

Super Visa for Parents and Grandparents

Parental Sponsorship was closed by Citizenship and Immigration of Canada (CIC) for the time being but now it has been re-opened in 2014. However, there is a cap on this Parental Sponsorship program of five thousand completed applications. This means that once this number of applications is reached, the program will close until the following year. So if you want to sponsor your parents or grandparents, you should do as soon as possible as the cap opens.

If you didn’t make it in time to sponsor, you can also apply for the Super Visa.

How Do I Sponsor My Parents or Grandparents

How Do I Sponsor My Parents or Grandparents

The Canadian government understands the need for parents and grandparents to reunite with their children and grandchildren. Therefore, they have produced a quick and easy way for reunification in the Parent and Grandparent Super Visa program.

Before the implementation of the Super Visa, most people sponsored their parents or grandparents as permanent residents through the Parent and Grandparent Program (PGP). Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) currently places a cap on the amount of applications that may be processed in a year, which means that many families will not see any success through this program.

Shabnam, I wanted to personally thank you for all your hard work and dedication to me and my wife. Our new lives together are all thanks to you. Considering the unique circumstances that initially prevented her, I had lost hope. I will make sure that if anyone I know needs immigration help, I will be sending them your way. Again, I can’t thank you enough.

Fantastic news, I entered Canada without a hitch. Once the guard at the border saw the package you had prepared for me, he took about ten minutes and handed me my permit. What I relief! I don’t know why I ever tried this without you guys! Thank you!

Reception was very nice and was sure to answer the questions he could but made sure I was taken care of by a rep at the firm. Shabnam was extremely helpful and I will be calling again when I am ready to proceed.
