How to Apply for Temporary Resident Visa for Canada

If you wish to come to Canada for a vacation, to visit family, or on business, you may be required to apply for a temporary resident visa. A temporary resident visa will show that you meet the requirements for admission into Canada and are authorized to stay in Canada for a specified amount of time.

Steps to Apply for Temporary Resident Visa

There are four steps in a temporary resident visa application process. These steps are,

  1. Gathering your documents
  2. Completing your application
  3. Paying the processing fee
  4. Mailing your application

The first step to applying for your Canadian Visitor Visa is to gather your documents. You can refer to the document checklist that must be submitted along with your application package as a reference. The checklist will provide you with a guide as to what you need to submit such as,

  • Two photos that meet the visa application photograph specifications
  • Proof of financial support
  • Photocopy of your travel itinerary

The second step is to complete the Visa application. There are various forms located on the Citizenship and Immigration website that must be filled out. Some of these include,

  • The Application for Temporary Resident Visa
  • The Family information form
  • The Document Checklist

The third step is paying your processing fees. This will include a fee for each family member and the cost for biometrics if it applicable to you. Instructions on method of payment and proof of receipt can be found online.

The final step is to submit your TRV application package. Submissions can be made at a Canadian visa office or a Visa Application Center, in your country or region, or online.
