IRCC Eliminates CRS Points for Job Offers in Express Entry System

Effective March 25, 2025, IRCC eliminates CRS points for job offers in Express Entry System!  Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has implemented a significant change to the Express Entry system by removing the additional Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) points previously awarded for valid job offers. This policy shift affects both current candidates in the Express Entry pool and future applicants.

Previous CRS Point Allocation for Job Offers:

  • Senior Management Positions (NOC Major Group 00):
    • Prior to this update, candidates with valid job offers in senior management roles received an additional 200 CRS points.
  • Other Skilled Occupations:
    • Candidates with valid job offers in other skilled occupations were awarded an extra 50 CRS points.

These additional points often significantly boosted candidates’ CRS scores, enhancing their chances of receiving an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for permanent residence. With the removal of these bonus points, candidates’ CRS scores may decrease accordingly.

Implications for Express Entry Candidates:

IRCC advises candidates to continue including job offer details in their Express Entry profiles to ensure eligibility for these programs. However, such offers will no longer enhance CRS scores. Candidates who have already received ITAs or have permanent residence applications in progress are not affected by this change.

Rationale Behind the Change:

In a press release dated December 23, 2024, IRCC described the removal of these points as a “temporary measure” aimed at addressing concerns related to the integrity of the immigration system. However, no specific timeline has been provided for when, or if, the policy might revert.

Achieving higher scores in English or French language tests can significantly boost your CRS score. For instance, obtaining Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) level 9 or higher can earn additional points. Consider retaking language tests to improve your results.

2. Pursue Further Education

Completing additional educational credentials, such as a master’s degree or professional certification, can increase your CRS score. Ensure that any new qualifications are assessed by a recognized Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) organization.

3. Gain Additional Work Experience

Accumulating more skilled work experience, particularly in Canada, can enhance your CRS score. If you’re currently employed in Canada, continuing to work can add valuable experience to your profile.

4. Obtain a Provincial Nomination

Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs) offer pathways to permanent residency for candidates who meet specific provincial or territorial criteria. A provincial nomination adds 600 points to your CRS score, effectively guaranteeing an ITA. Research PNPs to identify those aligned with your qualifications and experience.

5. Explore Category-Based Express Entry Draws

IRCC occasionally conducts category-based draws targeting candidates with specific attributes, such as work experience in high-demand occupations or strong French language skills. Aligning your profile with these categories may improve your chances of receiving an ITA.

6. Consider Alternative Immigration Pathways

If Express Entry is no longer a viable option, explore other immigration programs, such as:

  • Family Sponsorship: If you have a close relative who is a Canadian citizen or permanent resident, they may be able to sponsor you.
  • Atlantic Immigration Program (AIP): For candidates interested in settling in one of Canada’s Atlantic provinces.
  • Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot (RNIP): For candidates willing to live and work in participating rural and northern communities.
