Live in Caregiver Facts

When filing a Live in Caregiver application, there are a few facts that you must know. With the Live in Caregiver application the employer has to submit a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) application first prior to hiring a foreign worker. What this means the employer has to try to hire and recruit Canadian citizen or permanent resident first prior to offering the job to a foreign worker. After doing the recruitment efforts and not being successful in locating a Canadian that can take the position, Service Canada will provide the employer a Positive LMIA meaning they are able to hire the foreign worker and move to the second stage and apply for the Work Permit.

As the employer you need to keep in mind whichever foreign worker you decide to pick they have to have a secondary schooling, which means at least high school. The other thing that is important is that the foreign worker has to have some training at least 6 months or at least one-year work experience as a live in caregiver. Language is another requirement, in which the foreign worker must good knowledge of the English language. There is no mandatory exam or testing but it is recommended to include your language proficiency such as taking a IELTS test. If you do not want to do the exam you still must prove that you speak, read and can write well in English. This can be done by showing your certificates, diplomas or anything that demonstrates language proficiency.

These are just the basic requirements for the Live in Caregiver application, if you are looking at hiring someone or have found an employer that is willing to hire you, give us a call today we are here to help.
