LMIA Postings

Are you an employer on the lookout for the perfect candidate? Part of hiring involves posting advertisements to reach out to Canadians for your particular position. However, there are some things you may want to keep in mind to ensure that you are compliant with Service Canada. The first thing you would do is ensure that you clearly identify the job, which includes: the job title, the job duties and responsibilities as per the NOC, the skill level of the position, and job wages. By visiting www.jobbank.ca, you can access information regarding wages so you can comply with the prevailing wage per that NOC. For example the skill type A, B, C or D each have prevailing wage and would want to ensure that you comply with that or else your application to post your job position can be refused. After that, you can go to option “A” and under that you can type in the NOC or the job title. Once you do that, you will get the job descriptions and duties to include in your advertisement as well as other things you may wish to include in your job offer.

In addition, locate the geographic area of where the job is going to take place such that you can advertise to that geographical location. For example, if you are looking to hire someone to work on a farm, posting on the internet or advertising to applicants in downtown Toronto would not be a highly appropriate method of advertising because they may not have internet or live in downtown Toronto to see the job posting. Therefore, as the employer postings have to be done according to applicants geographical area and using advertising modes they would be familiar with such as the newspaper for the farmer.

Also, as the employer you need to identify the medium wage for that specific geographic location, as each location has a different prevailing wage. For example, there may be a difference between the prevailing wage in Alberta and in British Columbia. Additionally, you may wish to post a salary slightly higher than the exact medium wage for your position. This will increase your chances of hiring. Another factor to consider is the amount of places you should apply. Generally, you would want to apply at two places: Job Bank, and another place suitable for the position. If you advertise the position for an extended period of time – more so than was initially intended – you would have a stronger argument when explaining to an immigration officer that you tried as much as possible to hire a Canadian. Increasing the salary will also help, as well as increase your chances of getting the foreign worker on board. If you need assistance with posting a job or have any other questions please don’t hesitate to contact us and we will be glad to assist.
