A restoration of status means that you are restoring the status that you had. An example of this is an individual who received a study permit and the study permit will expire on November 1, 2017, but you realize that it has expired a couple of days later. In this case, you have the ability to restore your status as a student in Canada as long as you apply within 90 days of the expiry of your study permit. In this case, the restoration period will allow you to stay within the country; however, you may not continue studying until you receive a decision on your application. On the other hand, an extension of status is for individuals who will have their permit expire soon and they would like to extend their authorized status in Canada. In this case, an extension will allow the individual to remain in the country and continue their activities in Canada, whether that is studying, working or just visiting. This all depends on when you file your application. For more information on restorations and extensions of status in Canada, please watch our video in its entirety.
