Looking to invite your parents or grandparents to Canada under the Super Visa application and not sure how to calculate the Low Income Cut Off (LICO)? When calculating LICO requirements you need to look at your family size, for example, the Canadian citizen has a wife and three children (Canadian citizen, wife and three children = 5 members) and looking to invite his or her parents (mom and dad = 2 persons). So your total family size will be 7 members, after determining your family size you look at the LICO chart and see what minimum income you need to meet. As of 2016 individuals inviting their parents under the Super Visa and their family size is 7 you would need to make approximately $64,381. Please ensure you check CIC website for latest LICO requirements as they get updated frequently. If your family size is larger than 7 persons that for each additional person you add $6,555.
Size of Family Unit | Minimum necessary income |
---|---|
1 person (the sponsor) | $24,328 |
2 persons | $30,286 |
3 persons | $37,234 |
4 persons | $45,206 |
5 persons | $51,272 |
6 persons | $57,826 |
7 persons | $64,381 |
More than 7 persons, for each additional person, add | $6,555 |
LICO requirements for Permanent Residence are different when applying for Super Visa, so ensure you check the chart for Super Visa application.
To determine if you meet the Low Income Cut-Off, you need to calculate your available income through getting a document called Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) Notice of Assessment.
There are many other requirements for having Super Visa application approved such as proving that as the applicant your intent to Canada is only temporary and will exit once your visa expires. Having an invitation letter from the host (child or grandchild) and proving that your are the child or grandchild of the parent or grandparent you are inviting. Also, you need to provide proof of having medical insurance for at least one year from Canadian insurance company. The coverage has to be approximately 100,000 and has to be valid for each entry into Canada.
