Tips on British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program (BCPNP) Skilled Worker Category

Submitting an application to this program comes with a long list of requirements as well as employer criteria that you will need to consider. Both you and your employer will need to meet the eligibility criteria in order to have your application processed.

As the nomination programs are time intensive and have caps and deadlines, having the support of a representative in these matters would not only alleviate a great deal of stress but also greatly increase your chances for success. Many of our clients who face this situation are unsuspecting of the complicated nature of these applications or how to go about demonstrating the necessary requirements they will need to make in order to be successful.

Akrami & Associates will guide you every step of the way with this. Contact us for more details.

If you intend on submitting your application without the support of a representative, there are a couple of factors you should keep in mind.

Employment Verification

  • Your employer must provide you with a written offer of employment on official company letterhead. The letter must be:
    • signed and dated by a person authorized to hire employees, and
    • signed and dated by you, and stating that you accept the job offer.

In addition, the offer of employment must state:

  • your job title and duties,
  • your rate of pay,
  • your standard hours of work,
  • that the position is indeterminate and full-time (at least an average of 30 hours a week, year-round),
  • any discretionary benefits in addition to those required by law (such as pension and medical plans, disability insurance, sick pay, accommodation and meal allowances, and extra paid vacations), and
  • if the position is covered by a collective agreement, a reference to the agreement.
  • The wage stated on your offer of employment must be at market rate and comparable to the rate paid to workers with a similar level of experience and training for equivalent jobs in B.C. CIC does not consider bonuses, commissions, profit-sharing distributions, tips/gratuities, overtime wages or other similar payments to be part of your wage.

Other Important Factors to Consider

Financial Stability

  • You must show us that you have the ability to pay for your ongoing housing and living expenses in B.C.  This will be assessed using your:
    • employment income in B.C. ,
    • location of residence in B.C., and
    • number of dependants.

Be eligible for legal immigration status in Canada.

  • The PNP will not nominate you if:
    • you are prohibited from entering Canada,
    • you have not been lawfully admitted in the country where you currently reside,
    • you are in Canada illegally,
    • you have an unresolved refugee claim in Canada, or
    • you are under a removal order in Canada.
