When Am I Eligible to Apply For Canadian Citizenship?

In general you can apply for Canadian citizenship with Citizenship and Immigration of Canada (CIC) once you have completed your 1095 days out of four years. You have to live in Canada physically for 1095 days.

However, there are few exceptional circumstances where you do not have to reside physically in Canada for 1095 days.

The advantage of Canadian citizenship is that you receive a Canadian passport and you have a right to vote in elections.

If you want to apply for Canadian citizenship, you have to meet the following criteria. You must have a Canadian permanent resident status. If you are under 18 years, you still must have a Canadian permanent resident status but you do not need to live in Canada for 1095 days out of four years.

The applicant must be 18 years of age. For the children who are under 18 years, their applications can be made by their parents, adoptive parents, and legal guardian who is already Canadian citizen(s) or who is in the process of applying for Canadian citizenship at the same time.

You must be able to speak either one or both of Canada’s official languages (English or French). You can well enough communicate in Canadian society. If you are between the ages of 18 to 54, you have to submit proof of language proficiency.

You as an applicant cannot have a criminal history that prevents you from becoming Canadian citizens. You also must be aware of the rights and responsibilities of citizens and have a basic knowledge about Canada’s geography, political system, and history.

The applicant must have to submit a formal application for citizenship with CIC and also have to pay a government processing fee and right of citizenship fee.

The eligible applicant can apply for citizenship with Citizenship and Immigration of Canada. Once your application has been approved, you have to write a citizenship test (for the applicants who are between 18 and 54). Once you have passed the test, then you will attend a citizenship ceremony where you will receive a certificate of Canadian citizenship and officially become a new Canadians citizen.

Those are few of the basic requirements for Canadian citizenship. If you have any questions contact us and we will provide you the information regarding Canadian citizenship.
