Business Visitor Exemptions Documents to Show at Border

Travelling to Canada as a Business Visitor? Not sure if you are exempt from obtaining the Work Permit? To be considered a Business Visitor the immigration officer looks for supporting documents that shows your sole purpose is to conduct business in Canada. Business Visitors are individuals who attend meetings, conferences, and possibly give lectures without entering the Canadian Labour Market. Depending on what your situation is, there are different documents that would need to be presented to show you are actually a Business Visitor. One of these documents include demonstrating ties to your home country such as property, home, family, financial assets basically anything you own in your home country. Also, the officer looks for supporting documents to show your stay in Canada is only temporary meaning you will exit once your visa expires. This can be supported by presenting a business letter that is drafted by your foreign company detailing who you are and why you need to travel to Canada, places you will visit and duration of your stay. Another document you could include is the Invitation Letter from the Canadian company inviting you to Canada and detailing the specifics of your trip (reasons, goals, objectives, etc.). Ensure that the contact information is on the Invitation Letter by including a letterhead and also that the individual writing the letter signs it. If you are doing a training or installation, you would also want to include an After-Sales Agreement within the foreign company and the Canadian company to show that there is a warranty that requires an foreign technician to enter Canada. If you have any further questions regarding Business Visitors, feel free to give us a call and we would be glad to assist you!!
