Canada Permanent Residence Status Benefits

Obtaining Permanent Resident status is an extremely important document. Permanent Resident status gives you four benefits. The first benefit of being a PR card holder is that you get to live in this wonderful country, the second is your spouse and/or dependent children can go to school without obtaining a study permit. You can also work legally in Canada and be a productive member of society.

If you are a Permanent Resident of Canada, you will have health care coverage in that particular province you reside. Above all, it is important because a lot of people try to obtain their Permanent Residence for these reasons. If you are permanent residence card holder and you want to maintain that status you have to ensure that you reside in Canada two years out of five years. You will get permanent residence card once it’s approved, you will get it for five years once at a maximum. During the five years you have to physically be in Canada for two years, but if you are present in Canada for two years and want to exit out again then you could do so and you can renew your Permanent Residence card.

To renew it you should physically be present in Canada to submit the application. There are a lot of intricacies in filing a permanent residence card. There other ways to ensure you meet the residency obligations, you could be employed with a Canadian employer or you are employed outside of Canada you could still meet the residency obligations. Or if your spouse is a Canadian citizen or you reside with your spouse outside of Canada. To obtain permanent residence status or to continue to meet your permanent resident status is extremely important. After your permanent resident status the next step is your citizenship. To obtain that, you have to be physically be in Canada and reside in Canada for three out of five years. That’s really the main mandatory obligation on your part as the applicant, for there are other requirements as well such as you should be able to speak English or French which are Canada’s official languages.
