Canadian Live in Caregiver Program

Caregiver are individuals who are qualified to provide care for children, elderly and people with disabilities in their private homes without the need of any supervision. The first step to becoming a caregiver in Canada is finding an employer who is willing to provide you the job offer and putting in the recruitment efforts to obtain a Positive  Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) from Service Canada. Upon receiving a Positive LMIA the applicant moves to the second stage and can then apply for the Work Permit. So if you are interested in working as caregiver in Canada you have to keep in mind of the changes that have taken place. The changes include:

  • if you have applied for LMIA after November 30, 2014 you would need to apply for a regular Work Permit
  • if you applied for LMIA on or prior to November 30, 2014 then you can apply for the Live in Caregiver Work Permit
  • current Live in Caregivers can extend their current Work Permit or apply under the Live in Caregiver Work Permit with a new employer
  • caregiver that choose to live outside of the employers home will need to apply for a regular Work Permit and may need new LMIA before you can apply for the Work Permit (the work you do outside of the employers home may still count towards your permanent residence)

So if you are caregiver who is working in Canada and interested in applying for permanent residency you can do so through two pathways known as caring for children or caring for those with high medical needs. Depending on your work experience, language and educational background there are number of different factors to consider and several qualification you need to meet. So if you are interested to apply call and let us assess your situation for best possible outcome to achieve your immigration goals.
