Looking to travel to Canada or The United States, not sure what documents to carry with you at the port of entry? All visitors travelling to Canada or United Stated need a valid passport. US and Canadian citizens can also use their Nexus Card or an Enhanced Drivers License as well to enter each others countries. A Nexus pass is a border crossing card for expedited US Canada border crossing, travelers that have the NEXUS card provides them expedited travel at the US Canada border for predetermined low-risk Canadian and US citizens. An Enhanced Drivers License is an identity card similar to a regular driver’s license with additional information such as citizenship information. This card can be used as a passport at a Canada-US land and water border crossings. Unfortunately, a valid passport is still required to enter the United States by air.
Travelling with another form of identity such as the birth certificate or drivers license is no longer acceptable, but from time to time depending the immigration officer in charge may allow you entry with the birth certificate or drivers license and depending on your purpose of visit.
