Looking at applying for a Permanent Residency Card? Having a PR card that is expired does not necessarily mean that your status as a permanent resident is expired as well. PR renewals are if you have met the residency obligation of 730 days in the last five years (two years out of the five), current processing times are about six months.
If you have a travel date or something like that, make sure you apply for the Permanent Residency Card Renewal as soon as possible. If you have an urgent travel date, make sure you include that in your cover letter to demonstrate that you do indeed have a scheduled travel plan. That usually expedites the processing time for the renewal. With the PR card renewal, if the card has expired and you meet the PR obligation of two years out of five you could still apply for renewal.
A lot of clients believe that if their PR card has expired they have to reapply. That is false, if you’ve resided in Canada more than two years in the last five years and your PR card is now expired, you can still apply for a PR card renewal. Make sure to include all of the necessary forms, and documents while submitting your application. Having an expired PR card does not mean that your status for permanent residency has expired. So, you can just file a PR card application.
