Federal Skilled Trades Program

The Federal Skilled Trades Program is for people who want to come to Canada as Permanent Residents based on being qualified in a skilled trade. To be eligible to apply the applicant has to meet the follow:

  • Live outside the province
  • Meet the required levels for English or French
  • Have at least two years of full time work experience in a skilled trade within the five years before applying
  • Meet all the job requirements for that skilled trade

In addition the job requirement for that skill trade is set out in the national occupation code and we have to ensure that the job that is being offered to you matches that. Lastly, you could also qualify for the trade if you have a full time position being offered to you or if you have a certificate of qualification in that skilled trade.

This category is a category that recently opened up may of 2013, and it will close each year April 30th of that year. Because it is a very unique category there is only limited spot opened under each group. There are three thousand caps and no more than a hundred new applications for each job under group A and group B that’s being given. Group A includes 17 jobs with a moderate labour market need. Group B includes 26 in-demand jobs. In total, 43 jobs will be eligible to apply under the Federal Skilled Trade program in the first year of the program. To ensure the success of such an application it is very important as to the documentation we present to the immigration officer especially in regards to the trades itself many of them require the certification.

To determine if you are eligible to apply under the Federal Skilled Trades then contact us today. We will be glad to assess your situation and determine the best immigration route for you.
