How to Obtain Canadian Citizenship

To be eligible to apply for Canadian citizenship you have to meet certain requirements such as being 18 years of age, being a permanent resident of Canada, able to speak and write in English or French, not have any criminal inadmissibility issues, or being on a removal order, meeting tax requirements, showing that your intentions are to remain in Canada, demonstrating how well you know Canada and most importantly meeting the residency requirements. Currently the residency requirements are 1095 days out of the 4 years that you’re present in Canada. So 3 out of the 4 years have to be shown that you were physically in Canada (please see cic.gc.ca website for latest residency requirements).

Many times applicants applying for citizenship lose track of their dates especially if they travelled outside of Canada. If you fail to mention to citizenship and immigration Canada about certain dates you have been outside of Canada this could possibly constitute misrepresentation or it could delay your application. Therefore, it is very important to keep track of your exit and entry dates when travelling outside of Canada.

If the immigration officer is not satisfied with application filed but you have resided 3 years out the 4 you will be sent a questionnaire to fill out. This questionnaire if very lengthy and it focuses on the residency.

If you are unsure if you meet the residency requirements or how to calculate your dates so that you can apply for Canadian citizenship then please contact us. Our immigration representative will assess your eligibility and calculate your dates whether or not meet the requirements to apply.
