If you have an offense on record such as DUI, Felony, Misdemeanor, Theft Charge, Assault, Misrepresentation you would need to apply for document called the Temporary Resident Permit (TRP) to overcome your inadmissibility issue to Canada. Temporary Resident Permit is a document that allows you temporary entry into Canada. This document can be issued for a maximum period of three years or less. If the officer believes you do not have good reasons to travel to Canada or not sufficient supporting documents to prove your case they can simple refuse you entry.
If you are looking into submitting a TRP application at the Port of Entry it is recommended submit at the consulate level as well. The reason for this is because the officer at the border wants to ensure you have taken the necessary steps for entry into Canada and are serious about travelling to Canada. So prior to travelling to the border just try to wait as long as you can before making your trip to the border. When you arrive at the border ensure you can convince the immigration officer that you have good compelling reasons to come Canada and your matter is very urgent to be considered for getting a TRP at the Canadian border.
