Live in Caregiver Work Permit Qualifications

Live in Caregiver Work Permit Qualifications

Are you looking into the Live-In Caregiver Program? Not sure how you can come to Canada and work as caregiver? Well, the first thing you will need to do in order to be a caregiver in Canada is find an eligible Canadian employer who is interested in hiring you in Canada. You will have to work in their place of residence to care for the elderly or children or children with special needs.

In order to qualify as a Live-in Caregiver, your employer first needs to apply for a Labour Market Opinion (LMO) now known as Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA). This Labour Market Opinion is an assessment of the position that is being offered and it protects you as the applicant as well as your employer. The Labour Market Opinion will assess the qualification, the eligibility, as well as new duties in Canada. This ensures that your prospective employer has complied with the initiated set forth by Service Canada and Human Resources and Skills Development of Canada. Labour Market Opinion is set forth to make sure the employer has attempted to hire a Canadian or Permanent Resident prior to offering the job to a foreign worker.

If you are successful in obtaining a Labour Market Opinion, your employer has successfully complied with all his requirements and therefore the foreign worker can then move to the second step and apply for the Work Permit.

Other documents that your employer will need to provide would be the employment contract, which outlines the specifics of your intended occupations and duties in Canada. In order to qualify as a Live-In Caregiver, you are also required the necessary qualification experience. This means you will need to have at least six months of in class training and one year of qualified work experience with an eligible employer. If you meet these criteria, you are able to apply as a Live-In Caregiver in Canada.
