The NAFTA agreement exempts applicant from going through a longer process which is a labour market opinion. For more information on labour market opinion you can visit our website. The NAFTA work permit is a work permit that could be done at the port of entry same day or could also be done at the consulate. Current processing times at the consulates are about 6 to 8 weeks.
There is a list of occupations that will demonstrate that you qualify under the NAFTA agreement for example, computer system analysts are on this list. And each of these occupations have their own requirements for example some of them require you to have X amount of years of experience in that industry or they require a degree or both. Depending what your occupation is we would have to determine what the qualifications for you to be eligible for the NAFTA agreement.
Some of our clients who fall under the NAFTA agreement would like to come to Canada immediately, and they don’t want to wait the lengthy processing at the consulate. We file an application at the temporary foreign worker unit which is an officer who renders an opinion on an application, this opinion is very critical when we send you to the border and face an immigration officer with their questioning. In addition, with this opinion we will include in their other documentation to prove to the immigration officer that yes you are indeed an individual who is exempt from the labour market opinion and your occupation that’s being offered in Canada falls under the NAFTA agreement.
