The only situation in where you would get an interview is when the officer has a couple of questions regarding your application and they believe that they will get the right answer from you personally.
An example of when an officer may be confused is if your relationship is a bonafide one. In order for the officer to be satisfied and confident with an application he/she will ask questions to each spouse about the other. Depending on how the applicant and their spouse respond to the questions, the officer will most likely have made up their mind as to whether the applicants relationship is genuine or not .
The officers just want to avoid immigration fraud such as an applicant sponsoring a “spouse” for the sake of getting the person into the country and in reality the two people are not really a genuine couple and do not have a bonafide relationship. So the interview process is a way of detecting a confusion and possibly a fraud.
