Can I work in Canada while waiting for a decision on my Permanent Residence application? Yes, so long the foreign applicant keeps in mind that just because you have PR application in process, it does not necessarily mean you can work in Canada. To be able to work in Canada as foreign applicant you need a valid Work Permit as well. When applying for the Work Permit ensure you address your intentions to the immigration officer reviewing your application, that your intent is temporary and will exit once your work permit expires. Provide ample documents proving your ties to your home country and you have no intent to remain in Canada should the application for PR get refused. Also, carry your Work Permit documents with you at the Port of Entry as the immigration officer still has the right to refuse you, if he/she believes your intent is permanently.
