LMIA Application Tips

There are three main things you ought to know when submitting a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) Application. The first is the actual posting, the tip on the posting is that the salary is the same as the wage listed on the National Occupation Code or Job Bank site, so you can search job bank Canada, look at the NOC and make sure the salary is as per the prevailing wage. Make sure when you are doing the NOC you mention the actual posting. The NOC determines the job description, the prevailing wage, or the NOC A, B, or O, so picking the right NOC for your job is essentially putting the base or foundation for an LMIA application. Demonstrate what the wage needs to be, what the job needs to be etc.

Also what credentials you need for that particular NOC, ensure that before you start posting that position, research that position the NOC so that the posting is done correctly, that is the first step another thing is starting the application as soon as possible.

The Labour Market Assessments unlike what people commonly say it can take very long, most processing of LMIA, can take about six to eight months. The remember the first step of the application is the LMIA, after you have the Labour Market Impact Assessment it goes to step two. Which is the work permit application and that could take, depending on which visa centre you file, it could take a couple of months as well. When you have received a positive Labour Market Impact Assessment and you submit that application, remember that’s not the end of the game, you have to demonstrate that your intent in Canada is temporary, so include as many documents you can to ensure your tie back to your home country, so include as many documents you have and ensure that the officer understands your intent to back to your home country at the end of your work permit.
