Nova Scotia Express Entry Stream

The Nova Scotia Express Entry Stream of the Nova Scotia Provincial Nominee Program (NSNP) is a pathway for Canadian permanent residency for skilled workers having experience working in Nova Scotia.

This is tailored to attract skilled individuals, healthcare professionals, graduates, and entrepreneurs willing to work and settle in Nova Scotia. Aligned with the Federal Express Entry System, the successful candidates will receive 600 points under the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) leading to an invitation to apply (ITA) for permanent residence status.

The Nova Scotia Express Entry Stream does not require any valid job offer documents but other eligibility requirements should be met. There are two application routes to Nova Scotia Experience: Express Entry stream: Candidates may either apply directly to the Nova Scotia Office of Immigration (NSOI), or they may be selected from the Express Entry pool by the NSOI.

Eligibility Requirements

Federal Skilled Worker: candidates are required to have one year of full-time skilled work experience in the last 10 years
Canadian Experience Class: candidates are required to have one year of full-time Canadian work experience. This work does not have to be continuous but must be obtained within the three years before the Express Entry application.
Federal skilled trades: candidates are required to have at least two years of full-time work experience in a skilled trade occupation. Further, they must have either an offer letter for employment in a skilled trade in Canada or a qualification certificate in their skilled trade issued by the Canadian authority.

In order to be eligible the applicants should satisfy the following:

Work experience: Have at least 12 months of work experience in Nova Scotia
Age: be aged between 21 and 55 years old,
Express Entry Profile: Have a valid profile registered in the Express Entry system
Education: Hold a Canadian high school credential or equivalent
Language ability in English or French on the Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB): You need CLB 7 for skilled work in the National Occupational Classification (NOC) category 0 and 1. You need CLB 5 for NOC category 2 and 3 positions
Settlement intention: Demonstrate that they will be economically established in Nova Scotia and that they intend to live in the province permanently.

International students may be interested in this track, but they cannot apply until they graduate, even if they have the required job experience. Work experience earned while on a Post-Graduate Work Permit may be eligible.

Nova Scotia Labour Market Priorities stream

Another stream under the NSNP is the Nova Scotia Labour Market Priorities stream, which focuses on selecting candidates from the Express Entry pool who meet specific provincial labor market needs. To qualify, candidates must receive a Letter of Interest from Nova Scotia through their Express Entry profile. They must also meet the work experience and language proficiency requirements for the Express Entry stream they qualify for. The specific criteria can vary depending on the labor market needs identified by Nova Scotia.

The Nova Scotia Labour Market Priorities for Physicians stream is tailored for doctors. To be eligible, candidates must receive a Letter of Interest from Nova Scotia and have a job offer from the Nova Scotia Health Authority or the IWK Health Centre as a general practitioner, family physician, or specialist physician. They must also meet the minimum language requirements for the Express Entry stream they qualify for.
