Do I Need a Medical Exam?

Depending on the type of application you are applying for, a medical exam may be required. This medical exam must be conducted by a panel Physician who is physician that is designated by Citizenship and Immigration Canada.

Unfortunately, you cannot go to any doctor as not all doctors have this designation. Only a doctor authorized by CIC can do the immigration medical exam. This doctor is referred to as a panel physician.

You can choose a panel physician anywhere in the world, even if the panel physician is not in your country of residence. You must pay for the medical exam, and the cost can differ from one doctor to another.

You should confirm what you need to bring to your medical exam when you contact the panel physician’s office to make an appointment.

Your medical exam can only be completed and the results sent directly to Citizenship and Immigration Canada. You will not be able to see the results of your exam, and therefore only the panel Physician and Citizenship and Immigration Canada will ever know these results.

The results of a medical exam can determine whether or not you may be considered inadmissible based on your current medical condition. If the immigration officer reviewing your case determines that you are considered medically inadmissible, you not be authorized to enter Canada.

If you have a medical condition that may be considered to be a burden on Canadian Society, you may be considered medically inadmissible. If you have been determined to be medically inadmissible and find yourself in this situation, do not discourage. A Temporary Resident Permit is a temporary document that you may require to overcome this Inadmissibility. If you’re able to obtain your temporary resident permit, you will be allowed to enter Canada regardless of this Inadmissibility.
