I Am a US Citizen? Do I Require a Work Permit?
As a US citizen, you can travel to Canada without a Temporary Resident Visa (TRV). However, to legally work in Canada, you essentially require a work permit. However, things are much easier if you are a US national. Thanks to the NAFTA agreement, certain professions can easily acquire a work permit. To qualify for a work permit under the NAFTA agreement, you must:
- Be a citizen of the US
- Be looking for a job that lies under the NAFTA's list of profession
- Have a letter of job offer from a Canadian employer
- Be able to prove that you are qualified for the job by showing your education and work experience
