Federal Skilled Worker Selection Factor

Federal Skilled Worker Selection Factor Based on Language, Education and Work Experience

Citizenship and Immigration Canada selects foreign skilled workers based their Language Ability, Education, Work Experience, Age, Arranged Employment in Canada and Adaptability. To qualify under the Federal Skilled Worker Program you need to score 67 points or higher to immigrate to Canada. If you score less than 67 points than unfortunately you will not qualify under this category and have to wait until your situation improves or retake some test to improve your scores. Below will discuss how points are calculated for Language Ability, Education and Work Experience.

Points Granted for Language Ability under Federal Skilled Worker Program

The maximum points you can get for English or French are 28 points under the Federal Skilled Worker Program. So being able to speak English or French is very important as it will help you in the Canadian job market. The 28 points are given based on your ability to speak, listen, read or write in English or French. Any claim you make on your application you must provide supporting documents when requested by Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC). So if you claimed your language at a certain level and you cannot provide proof when CIC makes the request then you will not get an invitation to apply. Also, the supporting documents for proof of language must only come from a language test agency that is approved by Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC). If you like to get points for English and French then you must provide your test results for each language at the same time. So when you take your language test it will tell you how many points you get for language selection factor.

Important things to note:

  • Schedule your language test that is approved by citizenship and immigration Canada
  • Make sure to include your results of your test when you apply- should you fail to include your documents then immigration Canada will return your application without processing it.
  • Do not send your language test results to CIC directly but rather submitting your test results with your application.
  • Your language test results cannot be older than two years old
  • When you create a profile under express entry, the profile is valid for 12 months, so you have to make sure your test results are valid for at least the same number of days.
