PNP Alberta Semi Skilled Worker Stream

Confused about the Semi-Skilled Worker Program under the Alberta Provincial Nominee Program? Well, there are certain requirements you need to meet as the employer and the applicant. The start with as the employer, you must have a legitimate and registered business in the province of Alberta.

Another requirement is that your business must be under the five industries, which the semi-skilled worker qualifies for. These include food and beverage processing industries, manufacturing industries, trucking industries, hotel and lodge industries and food services industries.

Thirdly, the employer must provide a job offer to the applicant of a full time position in the province of Alberta with his/her company. An LMIA application must also be completed for the position, unless the position is exempt (though this is rare).

Because this is a semi-skilled category, you also have to ensure the position you are offering meets the requirements of the province of Alberta. Certain occupations require certain licensing and registration so it must be compliant to the laws and regulations. Also, as the applicant, you must be working in Alberta and demonstrate that you completed secondary school and meet the language requirements by submitting the language results.

The other requirement is that you must submit the application with the applicant jointly, as well as draft a plan for the accommodation and settlement jointly with the applicant. This is highly important, and there is a detailed way of doing this to make sure you are complying with the settlement plan for accommodation for the applicant. A lot of people do struggle with the settlement plan; however, if you are an employer and need assistance on drafting this, give us a call and we will be more than happy to help.
