Express Entry and International Students

International students, who wish to stay permanently in Canada after their work permits expire, should hold in hands information about the new system of CIC.

In January 1, 2015, Express Entry (EE) system started working which is an electronic system to manage applications for permanent resident including 3 classes:

  • Federal Skilled Worker Program
  • Federal Skilled Trade Program
  • Canadian Experienced Class

This system expects higher qualification from your application because they rank applicants to select the best candidates. Also to be eligible for EE, you must meet the criteria of at least 1 program. For example, if your calculation is approximately 67/100 points for FSWP, then you may be eligible to apply for EE.

When you are assessed qualified, you can open your EE profile which may ask all of your information. You should take an English exam (IELTS) before fill in the gap your grade even when they have not asked you to show any certificate by that time. And keep in mind as higher grade you have as higher point you get and higher opportunities to achieve permanent resident, so try your best.

Then your applications will be placed into a pool of candidates. The Government of Canada, provincial and territorial governments, and Canadian employers will select people from this pool.

Candidates who obtain the highest points will be issued an Invitation to Apply (ITA) then have 60 days to apply for permanent residence under the Federal Skilled Worker Program, Federal Skilled Trades Program, Canadian Experience Class or a portion of the Provincial Nominee Program. CIC will process the applications within six months or less.
