Express Entry for Federal Skilled Worker FSW

The Federal Skilled Worker category is prescribed as a class of persons who are skilled workers, who may become permanent residents on the basis of their ability to become economically established in Canada, and who intend to reside in a province other than Quebec. There are four fundamental requirements under this category.

The first requirement includes skilled work experience in your field that is at least one year (1560 hour total/ 30 hours per week) continues full-time or an equal amount in part-time. Your work experience has to be paid meaning it cannot be volunteer work or unpaid internships. Also the work experience has to be within the last 10 years and at skill type 0, or skill levels A or B of the 2011 National Occupation Classification (NOC).  As the foreign worker you must show you meet the duties in the NOC, if your work experience does not meet the description in the NOC then you are not eligible to apply under the program.

The second requirement is language ability meaning you need to meet the minimum language level of Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB)7 and taking a language test that is approved by CIC that shows you meet the levels of speaking, listening, reading and writing.

The third is the education requirements meaning you need to have a Canadian secondary or post-secondary certificate, diploma or degree. If you don’t have that you can show completed foreign credential and an Educational Credential Assessment report from an agency approved by CIC. The report has to show that your foreign education is equal to a Canadian secondary or post-secondary certificate, diploma or degree.

Finally, you must show proof of funds meaning you are able to financially support yourself and family once you arrive in Canada unless you have a job offer with an employer in Canada or are already legally working in Canada.
