Extend my stay in Canada

If you are already in Canada with temporary resident visa, and would like to extend my stay in Canada, you would have to apply for an extension. The first thing you need to do is check the expiration date of your current temporary resident visa. You should apply for an extension at least 30 days before your status as a temporary resident is about to expire.

Once you have applied for an extension of your status, and are waiting for your decision, you are deemed to have implied status. Implied status essentially means that you still have a temporary resident status till a decision has been rendered on your application. In order to be eligible you would have to provide similar information you did the first time around, and ensure the officials of the fact that your status in Canada is in fact temporary.

The application requires you to submit documents, which is usually case specific. You would provide documents that demonstrate the reason for your extension, and display your ties to your home country, which essentially shows that you have a reason to return home after your visit. You would also have to pay an application fee and submit your application before the expiration date on your current temporary resident visa. If your family member who wishes to extend their stay as well, they would to apply with a separate application.
