NAFTA Work Permits
NAFTA Work Permit is an agreement between US, Mexico and Canada. So if you come from Mexico or the United States and you have an occupation that is on the NAFTA list than you are exempt from Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA). If you are exempt from an LMIA it means the employer does not need to make recruitment efforts to hire a Canadian citizen or permanent resident they can simply apply for the Work Permit. The NAFTA Work Permit can be applied at the Port of Entry or Canadian Consulate. If you are an American citizen and the Canadian employer wants you start immediately you can simply apply at the Port of Entry for faster processing or apply at consulate level that takes about 3 to 4 months for processing. Unfortunately, as the Mexican citizen you cannot apply at the Port of Entry but have to submit an application at Consulate level because Mexicans are not exempts from the Temporary Resident Visa (TRV). So, as the Mexican citizen you need to apply for a Visitor Visa and the NAFTA Work Permit to be able to enter Canada.
