How to Apply for PR Card Renewal?

Do You Need Urgent Processing of a Permanent Resident Card?

If you are currently in Canada and require an urgent PR card because you are planning to travel outside Canada, we can help. You can apply for urgent processing if your card is not ready before you leave.

In order to qualify for urgent processing, you must be:

  • travelling in the next three months, and
  • returning to Canada on a commercial vehicle, like an airplane, train, boat or bus.

If you are in Canada and you have not applied and still need an urgent PR card, we can help.

If Your Travel Date is More Than Three Weeks Away:

  1. Fill out the application form called, applying for a permanent Resident card,
  2. Include a photocopy of your proof of travel and proof of payment with your application.

The proof of travel, such as tickets or an itinerary, must show:

  • The dates you will be travelling,
  • Your personal information, such as your full name, and
  • Your destination (where you are going).

The proof of payment can be part or full price for your travel. It must show:

  • The date that you paid,
  • The amount paid, and
  • How you paid.

It is important that you have all the information indicated above if you wish to renew your PR card urgently. If you do not send all this information, your application to renew your PR card might not be processed “urgently” but processed normally.

3. On your envelope, write:

Urgent Proof of travel included

It is important to know that processing times are increasing on a daily basis. Even if an application for urgent PR card renewal is filed, there is no guarantee that you will receive this in time for your travel. It is important to ensure that the correct paperwork is filed. In addition, it is very important to indicate the reason for the urgency. At Akrami & Associates, we contact the immigration officer and write a thorough submission as to the urgency of the PR card renewal.
