Reasons for Inadmissibility to Canada apart from Criminality
When foreign nationals are looking to come to Canada, they must first make sure that they are not inadmissible. Inadmissibility comes in forms other than criminality. Continue reading below to learn how you can be denied entry to Canada for reasons other than criminality
A foreign national can be denied entry to Canada and deemed inadmissible for any of the following reasons and must obtain the proper authorization to re-enter or come to Canada.
Security Reasons
The safety of Canadian citizens and permanent residents is a constant concern and high priority for all Immigration officers. One of the main things examined by immigration officers when a foreign national wants to enter Canada is whether they pose a threat to the country or the people in it. If a foreign national is deemed inadmissible for security reasons the reasons may include a history of violence, ties to a terrorist or organized crime system. Security threats are taken very seriously by Canadian Immigration and will result in admissibility.
Health Reasons
Medical examinations are required when applying to temporarily or permanently be in Canada. Like with security reasons, the person must proof that they do not pose a risk to Canadian society. Medical exams usually consist of physical examinations, urine tests, blood tests and possibly x-rays. Previous medical records and mental health assessments may be required. A foreign national can be denied entry to Canada if their condition could potentially threaten or endanger the health and/or safety of Canadian society. Additionally, one can be denied entry if they may cause an excessive demand on the social or health services provided by the Canadian government.
Financial Reasons
It is essentially that when travelling to Canada, foreign nationals have a sufficient amount of funds to ensure they can adequately enter/ leave Canada and to support themselves during their stay. You may be denied entry to Canada based on financial inadmissibility issues if you cannot prove that you have sufficient funds. The Canadian government has not set a certain amounts of funds minimum that is required. It depends on the length of stay, reason for travel and who you are travelling with.
Misrepresentation
Misrepresentation has become a serious problem for Canadian Immigration officers. Often times, foreign nationals misrepresent themselves, intentionally or unintentionally, for the purpose of entering Canada. Misrepresentation includes providing or submitting false, inaccurate, inconsistent or incomplete information to Canadian Immigration. Misrep can cause severe consequences for the foreign national as most cases will ban the person from returning to Canada for a minimum of 5 years.
Human and/or International Rights Violations
Canada highly values equality and human rights for all. With this being said it is regarded as a very serious reason for inadmissibility if the foreign nation has participated in crimes against humanity, war crimes or if they are a senior official of a Country that is subject to international sanctions. One will without a doubt be denied entry to Canada.
