If you are looking into inviting your parent or grandparents to Canada you need to meet certain requirements to be eligible under the Super Visa category. This video mainly focuses on how you can meet the Low Income Cut Off (LICO) requirements to be able to invite your parents to Canada. Find out if you meet the LICO requirements!!

Super Visa Application Requirements

Like to bring your parents or grandparents to Canada for longer period of time, if so the Super Visa might be for them!! This is a new option provided from December 1, 2011. This visa is valid for 10 years and will allow the applicant to remain in Canada up to 2 years at a time without renewing the status of the visa. In order to invite your parents or grandparents under this category you need to meet certain requirements. One of these requirements includes being a citizen or permanent resident of Canada and meeting the Low Income Cut-Off (LICO) requirements. These two requirements must be met before submitting the Super Visa application; if not, then you may want to consider submitting a regular Visitor Visa application.

To find out what the LICO requirement are you need to consider your family size, for example, if you are a Canadian citizen and have a spouse with 3 children and would like to bring over your mother, then you have a family size of 6 (yourself, husband, 3 children and mother =6). If you look at the latest LICO requirements on the government website (cic.gc.ca) your minimum income has to be $52,838 (please CIC website for latest update on income requirements). It is not always very clear cut, because sometimes your children might not be your dependent children and therefore you do not need to count them. For example, if your children have moved out or are married you do not include them on your application.

Generally, the dependent children are those that are under the age of 18; however you may have a child that is 19 years old but may still be financially dependent on you to support them with their in which you have to include them in your application. The key definition here is being dependent on you financially. Financials can be supported with bank statements, notice of assessment and many other supporting documents.
