When applying for a temporary resident visa, commonly known as a visitor visa, you will need to keep in mind one major concept: the temporary nature of your visit. As you are applying for a temporary document, you will need to satisfy an officer that, if approved, you will leave Canada at the end of your authorized period of stay. Many of our clients get refused based on the fact they did not adequately demonstrate ties to their home country or did not satisfy an officer that they would leave Canada at the end of their authorized period of stay.

If you intend to submit your application without the support of a representative, there are a couple of factors you should keep in mind.

Apply Separately

Your family members who also wish to visit Canada must apply by filling out their own temporary residence form (Temporary Resident Visa, Study Permit or work permit). However, you may send all family member application forms in the same envelope with only one payment receipt for the total amount.

Your spouse or common-law partner and children must meet all the requirements for temporary residents in Canada.

Medical Requirements

You and your family members may be required to undergo a medical examination in order to come to Canada. This exam will need to be completed by a designated medical practitioner who has been indicated by Citizenship and Immigration Canada.

You may either:

• undergo an upfront medical examination by contacting a Panel Physician; or
• wait until your application is reviewed and medical instructions are provided to you by the visa office.

Visa Exempt?

Some countries are considered to be visa exempt; these countries are designated by Citizenship and Immigration Canada. Before attempting to apply, you should first determine whether or not you will first require a visa.

Note, if you come from a visa exempt country, this is not mean that you can stay in Canada indefinitely. Typically you can remain in Canada for up to six months before requiring a status document or being required to exit the country.
