Criminal Rehabilitation is not for everyone, to determine if you are eligible to apply we need to look at the number offences on record, so waiting period can be from 5 years to 10 years. So if you are convicted of an offence with max term of imprisonment then you have to wait ten years prior to applying for Criminal Rehabilitation. If you have only one offence you may eligible to apply for Criminal Rehabilitation after the five year term and again this depends on the severity of the offence. Usually, you are considered Deemed Rehabilitation after 10 years of completed your sentence.

The Criminal Rehabilitation application can only filed at the consulate and which take approximately 8-12 months for processing, once you receive a positive decision on your application then you can travel with ease to Canada as long as you do not re-offend.

When applying for Permanent Residency in Canada whether it is through a Family Class or through one of the Economic Classes you first have to overcome your inadmissibility and be considered rehabilitated prior to applying for any PR applications.

When submitting a Criminal Rehabilitation application, you need to provide ample documents to show you are rehabilitated and are not a threat to Canadian society. This can be done through providing documents as such:

• documents that demonstrate good behaviour
• documents from your community that support you
• character reference letter of you think you are rehabilitated- demonstrating regret, remorse and growth
• your accomplishments
• police clearances
• resume
