The Provincial Nominee Program is one of the most common pathways to obtain permanent residency in Canada. Under the program, Canadian provinces and territories may nominate individuals who wish to immigrate to Canada and who will bring their expertise and experience to contribute to economy.

There many well-known cities, such as Toronto and Ottawa, that attract foreign nationals to settle in Ontario. The cities, towns, and communities have welcomed newcomers from all over the world for many decades.

The Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program currently includes three Express Entry-aligned streams. In these cases, if you receive an Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program’s provincial nomination, that may boost you additional 600 Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) points. Once you CRS points are competitive enough, the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) will draw candidates from the Express Entry pool, and they will receive an invitation to apply (ITA) for Canadian permanent residence.

British Columbia

The British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program is one of Canada’s Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs). It has two broad streams, which are Express Entry BC and Skills Immigration, for workers and graduates. The British Columbia-PNP also has an additional stream for entrepreneurs.

Some British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program categories are aligned with Canada’s federal Express Entry immigration selection system. Similar to the Ontario-PNP, successful applicants, who receive the province’s nomination, will receive additional Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) points. Moreover, those applicants will be very likely to receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for permanent residence upon completion of the Express Entry pool draw.


The wealth of job opportunities across the province and high living standards are two major factors that attract foreign nationals to settle in Alberta. The city of Edmonton and Calgary have experienced economic growth over recent years.

In 2018, the AINP launched two brand new streams — the Opportunity Stream and an Express Entry Stream — which replaced the Strategic Recruitment stream and the Employer-Driven stream.

If you are a foreign worker working in Alberta, you may use the Opportunity stream to apply for Canadian permanent residence. In order for qualify for this, you will need to have a valid job offer from an employer in Alberta.

If you receive provincial nomination through an Express Entry-aligned stream, you will receive 600 additional Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) points and an invitation to apply (ITA).


Originally launched in 1998, the Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program welcomed more than 130,000 immigrants to Canada within the first two decades. Now, the Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program is committed to bringing more newcomers in the upcoming years.

The Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program offers a stream for international students graduating in Manitoba for faster nominations, and a new stream for business immigrants.

Of course, the Manitoba Provincial Nominee is also aligned with the Express Entry system. As previously mentioned, if you have been drawn from the Express Entry pool, then you will be granted 600 additional Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) points, resulting in quick issuance of an invitation to apply for permanent residence.

Provincial Nominee Program processing times

Provincial Nominee Program’s processing times are majorly based on whether or not the application has been submitted under an Express Entry-linked PNP stream, or one of the other streams not linked with Express Entry.

Even though processing times of the Provincial Nominee Program are not exact, most provinces have aimed to decrease their processing times to a few months, or even weeks. For Express Entry-linked applications, the federal processing time remains approximately six months or to get a final decision.
