Open Work Permit

A work permit is a permit that enables individuals to work inside of Canada. In order to be eligible for an open work permit, most individuals are in a situation where they are entitled to an open work permit. For example, is your foreign spouse posses a closed work permit case, then you (as their spouse) are entitled to one as well. The only way you can be eligible for an open work permit is that if your spouse’s work permit is under NOC A, B, or O.

Another situation where you could obtain an open work permit is by an inland spousal sponsorship. You (as the spouse of the Canadian citizen/permanent resident) are permitted to an open work permit.

There are many different types of work permits, with the other two being a post-graduate permit and/or off campus work permit. However, even though t.here are different types of work permits, the most common types are spousal sponsorships and those individuals who’s spouses are foreign carriers of open work permits
