What is a Visitor’s Visa

In order to apply for a visitor’s visa, also commonly coined as a temporary resident’s visa, the purpose of your visit must be of a brief nature. This is because in order to successfully acquire this temporary document, you must be able to prove to an immigration officer that you will be leaving promptly after your requested time of stay within the country. Temporary resident visas, depending on whether it is a single or multiple entry applicant, will usually only allow visitors to enter the country once and stay up to approximately a 6 month period maximum. One must also be able to display that they meet the requirements and proof through an invitation letter when applying for a visitor’s visa application.

Who can apply for a Visitor’s Visa

When attempting to apply for a visitor’s visa, applicants must keep in mind the necessary requirements they must meet in order to prove them triumphant. The following conditions consist of being able to provide the following: displaying a need to leave after their visit. This can be presented through ties to their home country with their work, owning of property, immediate family to attend to, and the list can go on. You must also be able to provide an invitation letter that indicates everything an immigration officer may want to inquire about in regards to your trip; such as the duration of your stay, where you will stay, whether or not you can provide the financial funds necessary, and the exact date of your departure from Canada.

Applicants must also be able to also demonstrate that they have not been convicted of any of the following: any type of criminal activity, human rights violations, or organized crime.

Understanding the difference between Visas

Not to get confused with super visas, temporary resident permits, or any other visa application but visitor visas have a specific purpose and cannot be applied in every case. Visitor’s visas are granted to those applicants who are seeking to only obtain entry into the country for a short moment of time. On top of having to satisfy the requirements and providing the correct documents, visitor visas can be requested in two ways. An applicant can apply for either a single or multiple entry visa. A single entry visitor’s visa is for any foreign international seeking to visit Canada on a one-time basis. But if you are an applicant that is attempting to file for a visa and be able to request entry into Canada for any more than one visit, applying for a multiple entry visitor’s visa might be the best route for you.

Travelling with a Visitor’s Visa

No matter what type of visa an applicant has successfully acquired, all visitors must have their valid travel documents on them when travelling. A visa alone is not an official valid travel document nor will you be allowed to enter Canada with just that documentation alone.

Please be advised that anybody attempting to enter the country with a visitor’s visa can be both granted or refused entry by a Canadian Border Service Agent (CBSA). It is up to their discretion. Even if an applicant has all of the required documents, it does not give them a right to enter the country. Refusal of entry can take place if the Canadian Border Service Agent finds that you have misrepresented or fabricated any aspect of yourself for your visa application, or you do not have intent to stay in the country for only the specific time requested. This allows them the authority to deny you your entry.
