What is an Open Work Permit Video
What is an Open Work Permit
Open Work Permit is essentially a work permit in which you can work with any employer in Canada meaning it is not job specific and your employer does not need to apply for an Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) and the employer does not have to pay the government fees. An Open Work Permit is typically a special provision associated with another application in process or status. For example, if you are a spouse of a foreign worker that has a Closed Work Permit then you as the spouse are entitled to an Open Work Permit. However, the foreign worker has to have an work permit that is under NOC A, B or O, if the foreign worker has a Work Permit under NOC C or D then you as the spouse is not eligible to apply for the Open Work Permit. Another, example of an Open Work Permit would be Open Spousal Work Permit. So, if you have submitted an Inland Spousal Sponsorship application your spouse is eligible to apply for Spousal Open Work Permit until a decision is made on the application. There are other ways of getting an Open Work Permit such as through the Post Graduate Work Permit, Off Campus Work Permit, Refugee Claimants, Protected Persons and their family members, dependent family members of permanent resident applicants, temporary resident permit holders etc.
