Am I eligible for Self-Employed Immigration?

This category of permanent residency is very narrow and is directed towards a focused audience. There are only three sub-categories that may qualify under:

    1. first if you are self employed in cultural activities or athletics

    2. if you have taken part in cultural activities at a world class level

    3. lastly, if you have experience in managing a farm

In most cases you will be assigned points based on your past experience, education, age, your language abilities and adaptability. As the applicant, you would have to show that you have relevant experience, you are able to be self-employed in Canada, and can contribute to Canada’s economy. Usually, you would be required to have at least two years of experience as a self-employed person, and it must be during the period starting five years before the day you apply.

Cultural activities include musicians, artist, film makers etc. To qualify under this category, you usually need two one-year periods of experience being self employed in the designated cultural activity or in participating in cultural activity at a world class level or a combination of two.

In terms of athletics you usually would have to demonstrate that you have two one- year periods of experience being self-employment in an athletic activity or have two one-year periods of experience in participating in an athletic activity at a world class level or a combination of the two.

In terms of experience managing a farm you would usually require two one-year periods of experience in managing a farm.

In addition, for all three categories you usually would require a medical exam, get police certificates, and prove that you are admissible. In most cases, you will be required to show that you have enough money to support yourself once you enter Canada.
