If you are a potential candidate, you can complete an Express Entry profile at any time. There isn’t any deadline on completing a profile and there will be no caps as to how many people will be accepted into the pool. From this pool of candidates, you may be chosen (only the top candidates are chosen). If you are chosen, you will be invited to invited to continue your permanent residence application. If you are invited, you have a 60 day deadline to complete and submit an Application for Permanent Residence. This application will be processed within 6 months or less.
Express Entry applies to individuals who would qualify for these programs:
- Federal Skilled Worker Program
- Federal Skilled Trades Program
- Canadian Experience Class
Candidates can also be recruited from the Express Entry system by provinces and territories to enter their Provincial Nominee Program. Through this program provinces and territories can nominate people to immigrate to Canada based on their skills, education, and work experience that will contribute to the economy of that province or territory.
There are two steps:
Potential candidates must complete an online Express Entry profile:
- you will use a secure form that will provide information about your:
- skills
- work experience
- language ability
- education
- other details that will help the immigration officer assess you
If you meet the criteria for either the Federal Skilled Worker Program, the Federal Skilled Trades Program, or the Canadian Experience Class, then you will be placed in a pool of candidates. If you do not already have a job offer that is supported by the Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA), or a nomination from a province or territory, you will have to register with Employment and Social Development Canada’s Job Bank. This is one way that you will be able to connect with eligible employers. You must not only rely on this, you must pursue a search for an eligible employer on your own as well. Also, you will only be able to stay in the pool for up to one year. If you do not receive an invitation to apply for permanent residence within that 12 month period, you will be taken out of the pool. You can submit a new profile and try again if you still meet the criteria. This is to ensure quick processing times by preventing backlogs.
Only the highest-ranking candidates will be invited to apply for permanent residence
Who the highest-ranking candidates are will be determined on a points based system (comprehensive ranking system). Points will be awarded based on the information provided in ones online profile. Points will be awarded for things such as:
- a job offer
- a nomination from a province or territory (can receive additional points for this)
- skills and experience factors
- a job offer supported by LMIA (additional points)
Under the CRS, points are awarded for core human capital, skill transferability, and a qualifying a job offer from a Canadian employer or a nomination from a Canadian province or territory.
If you are one of the highest-ranking candidates, you will be invited to apply for permanent residence. When you receive this invitation, you will have a limited time of 60 days to complete and submit the application with all the necessary documents. Due to the fact that this is Express Entry, applications will be processed within 6 months or less.
In conclusion, Express Entry is exactly as it sounds a quick way to permanent residence in Canada. Applications will be processed within 6 months as long as all the requirements are met.
