You need to ensure that you fulfill the Express Entry requirements. Don’t know what the requirements are? Read the blog to get adequate knowledge of it.

What is the Canadian Experience Class (CEC)?

Candidates possessing recent work experience in Canada can stay in the country permanently. Is it your dream to stay in Canada and do you already have Canadian work experience? It’s time you should apply for the Canadian Experience Class (CEC) to fulfill your dream at the earliest.

The CEC is one of the quick methods to obtain permanent residence in Canada, which requires 6 months and above to complete. It is an independent immigration program for those candidates who have at least 1560 hours of full-time skilled work experience over 1 year or 1560 hours of part-time skilled work experience over 2 years in Canada.

So, are there any requirements for Express Entry in Canada? Yes, there are certain definite eligibility requirements, which can get you permanent residence in Canada. Before exploring the Express Entry requirements, let’s take a quick look at the benefits of CEC.

What are the advantages of the CEC?

The CEC is a joint effort by the federal and provincial governments of Canada. It aims to encourage international students and temporary foreign workers to pursue their dream careers in Canada. To mark the benefits of CEC, it can be noted that:

  1. Skilled workers have a significant advantage in the Canadian employment market if they possess previous work experience in the country.
  2. The amalgamation of high human capital criteria such as possessing required levels of education and work experience, being young and middle-aged aspirants; and having professional and social networks in Canada validates CEC immigrants to achieve success in the Canadian labor market sphere.
  3. Candidates with work experience in Canada can obtain Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) points concerning Express Entry. It is likely to enhance their chances of acquiring permanent residence in the country.
  4. CEC candidates after succeeding in Express Entry can procure their permanent residence status within 6 months.
  5. Candidates achieving the CEC need not have to highlight IRCC settlement funds to support themselves financially.

Let’s proceed to the requirements essential for obtaining CEC.

Minimum requirements

To get an Express Entry for CEC, you must:

  • Have at least 1 year of skilled work experience in the country
  • Accomplish the necessary language levels required for your job for definite language abilities such as reading, writing, speaking, and listening
  • Have obtained Canadian work experience under temporary resident status with a legal permit to work.
  • Plan to reside outside Quebec

You are not eligible for Express Entry for CEC if:

  • You are a refugee claimant in Canada
  • Your work experience in the country lacked temporary resident status
  • You are working without authorization

As per the National Occupational Classification (NOC) in Canada, skilled work experience outlines work experience obtained in Training, Education, Experience, Responsibilities (TEER) 0, 1, 2, or 3 job categories. NOC highlights skilled work experience as managerial jobs, professional jobs, and skilled trades and technical jobs.

Education requirements

There is no specific education requirement for obtaining CEC. However, to boost your rank for immigration purposes in the Express Entry stock, you can avail of it in two ways:

  1. If you possess foreign education, you are likely to obtain points for an Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) report from a designated organization concerning immigration purposes, outlining your education to be equivalent to a degree, diploma, or certificate from a Canadian institution.
  2. If you have completed your schooling in Canada, you can obtain points for a diploma, degree, or certificate from a Canadian secondary institution or a post-secondary institution.

Language ability

If you are proficient in English or French language, you will be tested on writing, reading, speaking, and listening to the languages. Include the test results in your Express Entry profile to mark your language competency.

The language tests are valid only for 2 years after the published date of the test result. It is advisable to take another test if your test results are older than 2 years.

So, how can you ensure your language ability? Keep the following things in mind.

  • You must accomplish the minimum level of Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) 5 for TEER 2 or 3 jobs, or the minimum level of CLB 7 for TEER 0 or 1 job.
  • You need to sit for a language test recognized by Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC).
