What is the Provincial Nominee Program PNP and What Provinces take Part in PNP

What is Provincial Nomination Program PNP?

The Provincial Nominee Program is a program that gives provinces the option to nominate individuals who wish to immigrate to Canada and who are interested in settling in a particular province. This program is geared towards allowing Canada’s provinces and territories to select you as an individual who has shown interest in settling within Canada in a particular province and/or territory. As an interested individual you must also be able to contribute to that certain province and/or territory’s economic development. The Provincial Nomination Program is essentially a quicker way of obtaining Permanent Resident status in Canada.

Criteria Provinces Look for in their Nominees

The program is designed to choose individuals who will be able to settle into life and work in the region, as well as, effectively contribute to the community. One of the requirements a nominee has to meet is the language test requirements. Language test requirements for semi or low skilled job under the Express Entry Route for managerial job, professional job, technical job and skilled trade one would be tested on ability to listen, speak, read, and write in English or French. The minimum standard depends on each province or territory. Other eligibility standards vary depending on the province.

Things that most provinces look for are:

  • Job offer from an employer in the province
  • Education
  • Work experience
  • Close relations within the province
  • The individual’s ability to adapt to life in that province

Why was the Provincial Nominee Program created?

The point of the Provincial Nomination Program is to build up each province economically. The goal is for provinces to bring in individual who will be mutually beneficial to themselves and the province. The requirements are usually narrowed down to criteria specifically designed to build each province up with individuals who fulfill the specific needs.

For example, provinces like Alberta or Saskatchewan are interested in building up their farming industries and the individuals with that sort of experience may be a great benefit to these provinces. Provinces on the east side like Nova Scotia might be more interested in building up their fishing industries and therefore want more individuals with that sort of background. Economy is the number one thing here. If it is not benefiting the province in anyway, then there is no rush in bringing you in as quickly as possible.
