PR Card Expired Outside of Canada

Are you living outside of Canada with an expired PR card? Confused on what to do next? One thing you can do is renew your PR Card by making Humanitarian and Compassionate (H&C) arguments. This means that you will have to demonstrate to Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) that you have humanitarian reasons to re-enter Canada. One important aspect of this is demonstrating why you existed in Canada initially. Acceptable reasons include employment reasons or family emergencies.

For employment reasons, you would need to demonstrate that you tried hard to find employment in Canada but were not successful, or that you got a good job offer outside of Canada. As soon as the employment is finished you can then file for a PR Card Renewal with Humanitarian and Compassionate (H&C) arguments, stating that the employment is no longer there and that you need to come back into Canada. Throughout this, it is recommended that you still attempt to find jobs in Canada to demonstrate that your attention and loyalty always returns back to Canada.

Family emergency reasons are a little different. This is in regards to exiting Canada to attend to a family member that cannot attend to himself. Ensure that you return to Canada as soon as the emergency is over. For example, there is death in the family once that is taken care of you need to come back to Canada as soon as possible.

Another factor to consider is children, if there are children involved especially dependent children that are permanent residents of Canada making an argument that it is the best interest of the child to come back to Canada.
